Thankful for bounty of opportunities

As part of Prizma, a boutique environmental and social advisory practice, I have been fortunate to be able to contribute to some unique projects. These include the Laudato Si Wind development in Penonomé Panama, which was recently visited by former US President Bill Clinton, as well as Lucara Diamond, which recently recovered a 1,111 carat gem quality diamond in Bostwana. You can read more about these projects and Prizma's involvement below.   Shortlink:

Over the last weekend, I was stuck at an airport during my return trip from a visit to the Atacama Solar PV project in Chile. I decided that it was more fun to read and be thankful about recent client success stories instead of getting annoyed by record breaking snow storms and flight cancellations in Chicago, which was delaying my trip home.

Starting above ground: As part of the Clinton Global Initiative’s programs, InterEnergy, one of Prizma's clients, committed in 2013 to invest $100 million in large-scale wind farms and other renewable energy projects in Latin America and the Caribbean. The former US President Bill Clinton visited the Laudato Si Wind Park in Coclé, Penonomé , Panama, on November 10, 2015, to celebrate InterEnergy’s success in developing the 215MW wind farm in Coclé, 100 km south of Panama City, Panama. This development is expected to be the largest wind power producer in the Central America and Caribbean regions.

What was Prizma’s role?

As highlighted in a short story, Prizma’s team assisted the successive developers and investors of the Laudato Si wind park in Penonomé (from Phase I through to Phase III) to align their projects’ impact assessments and related management plans with the IFC Performance Standards and Equator Principles.

Prizma’s efforts contributed to our clients’ plans to mobilize sustainable finance from institutions ranging from the World Bank Group’s IFC to Austria’s OeEB. Congrats to InterEnergy and all others involved in the Laudato Si wind park in Penonomé, Panama!

Moving below ground: For the past three years, Prizma has been involved with Lucara Diamond, a new diamond mining company. Recently, Lucara announced recovering a 1,111 carat gem quality diamond. This stone is the largest ever to be recovered in Botswana. Shortly thereafter, Lucara announced the recovery of additional large diamonds, including an 813 carat stone. Congrats to all those involved with Lucara and its Karowe Mine in Botswana.

What was Prizma’s role?

Prizma has been assisting Lucara since the beginning of its sustainability reporting journey. More recently, Prizma’s team has been supporting Lucara to transition its sustainability reporting from GRI-G3 to GRI-G4, the latest version of the most widely used sustainability reporting framework. Lucara benefits from our experienced team which features GRI certified (G4) and AccountAbility licensed assurance practitioners.

On reflection, I am thankful for the opportunity to be engaged in interesting projects,  collaborating with talented colleagues, and my supportive family. From all of us at Prizma, Happy Thanksgiving!
